More information
The role of Textile Designer can be very different depending on the role, you could be designing interiors, creating a print for clothes or even something else entirely. If you have a background in Fashion Design and are ready to hit the ground running then Textile Design could be just right for you.
Qualifications and pay in Textile Design
Getting into the Textile Design Industry can be difficult. A Fashion Design degree is highly recommended, as although you may get an entry-level position there is very little progression available without formal training. It can even pay to be aware of where you want to be whilst you're still studying, as Fashion Design degrees can often be tailored towards your desired career path.
Many entry-level positions are relatively low paid, and internships are something of a trend with many aspiring Designers heading to Europe for their first position.
Permanent roles can be few and far between in the Fashion Industry and many Textile Designers take on freelance and contract work in order to boost their pay. Though, if you have the qualifications and manage to gain some experience there are good opportunities for progression and wage increases once you've made a name for yourself.
