More information
Working alongside editors, designers and web developers, the job of a content manager is to oversee the information that is displayed by a company; usually via their website. They will typically take a lead role in developing / maintaining a company's brand voice and achieve this by producing and managing the creation of online copy, using management systems to analyse data and presenting reports to senior personnel. Content managers will liaise with marketing teams and may work across many different areas of content including social media, e-commerce and advertising. Specialist local and UK marketing recruitment agencies will be able to source quality candidates for their clients' permanent and interim content manager vacancies.
Content Manager salary information
The average content manager will work a standard 40 hour week although overtime may be necessary if deadlines are approaching. Salaries can vary depending on experience and the size of the organisation with a candidate being able to expect earnings of anywhere between £25K-£50K per annum. Large city based companies in London, Manchester and Birmingham may offer the best job opportunities with professionals in the South East usually earning the highest pay.
There is no specific route to becoming a content manager although previous experience of writing professionally is considered crucial to the role. A background or qualifications in journalism or marketing is looked upon favourably while a knowledge of PR, communications, IT, media and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is also seen as an advantage. Candidates are encouraged to create a personal blog, volunteer content for websites / publications and keep a portfolio of all of their written work to present to potential employers.
Recruitment consultants working for a specialist marketing agency understand the need to recruit creative content managers with an attention to detail and the ability to present written information to a target audience. Agencies will have assessment procedures in place to source candidates with the skills and personality that will make them an asset to their list of clients.
