More Information
Northamptonshire is a ceremonial county in central England. With a population of nearly 700,000 it is a heavily populated area that includes the large towns of Wellingborough, Corby and Daventry.
The local economy in Northamptonshire is a diverse and vibrant one - although it has been hit like most other regions by the recent economic downturn. It is the county's manufacturing and services economies that gives accounting firms in the area plenty of work. Employment opportunities can be found in the area for credit controllers, treasury clerks, sales ledger clerks and chartered accountants. The majority of major accountancy firms in the county are located in Northampton.
Local accounting firms such as MacIntyre Hudson and MJB use local recruitment agencies on a regular basis in order to find motivated staff in the area; however, competition for accounting jobs in this part of the UK is extremely fierce. Northampton's location on the M1 means the area can serve large swathes of the Midlands, Leicestershire, Buckinghamshire and Greater London, so jobs are relatively plentiful.
Despite the economic downturn, accounting firms in general have managed to survive - simply because they are an essential service for business. Credit controllers and clerks in the county can earn between £14,000 and £20,000 per year. However, senior accountants and managers can earn up to £60,000 per year.
