More Information
Manchester is a city in the north west of England with a population of over 500,000. However, with a population of over 2 million, the Greater Manchester area is the third-largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom.
Manchester itself does not have a current car assembly industry. However, Ford had a highly successful assembly plant in Trafford Park before it was closed several years ago. The nearest large-scale production plant to Manchester is Ellesmere Port in Merseyside - manufacturing Vauxhall and Opel cars for the UK and Europe. Although Manchester is not a significant area for the manufacturing of vehicles, it certainly is for selling them. The wider metropolitan area is home to luxury dealers selling Porsches, Ferraris and Rolls-Royces.
Although there are no assembly plants in Manchester, there are a few companies that make products for the automotive supply chain; these include textile, electrical component and tyre manufacturers. There are several employment opportunities with local recruitment agencies for a wide range of staff in the industry, including sales professionals, account managers, engineers and senior management.
Salaries in the sector vary greatly. Sales staff working in large dealerships can usually expect to receive a basic salary of between £20,000 and £40,000, but bonuses and commissions can greatly increase that figure. Senior engineers working in the automotive supply chain can earn up to £50,000.
