Berkshire is an English county located just to the west of London. Amongst its towns include Reading, Maidenhead and Slough, and these areas often serve as commuting towns for people working in the capital.
Berkshire is a thriving area for business, with several multinational companies located in the county. The area's commitment to enterprise and business has an obvious knock-on effect for the construction industry. As a result, the arrival of firms such as Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard and PepsiCo has meant there has been a steady supply of employment opportunities for joiners, architects, plant drivers and many more building workers in the region. Despite the acute economic difficulties experienced in many other regions of the UK, Berkshire has managed to escape the very worst of the problems.
The towns of Reading and Slough have recently received significant investment for housing and infrastructure projects, so local recruitment agencies have been fortunate enough to have a number of staff vacancies for skilled workers in the industry. However, due to the volatile nature of construction at the moment, many of these roles are offered either on a self-employed basis or on fixed-term contracts.
All of the major construction companies currently have projects in the area, including Wimpey, Kier, Charles Church and Barrett.
