If you work in construction, there has never been a better time to be in Manchester. Commercial capital of England's Northwest, Manchester is home to some half a million people. Every year, thousands of people in the region flock to Manchester for shopping and entertainment, making the city an attractive development location.
Currently, Manchester is home to an enormous redevelopment scheme, which will include expanding the city's transport systems and extending metro station locations, including at the airport. With an estimated £1.5 billion in available funding, the 'Smart City' scheme partnership is also looking to support the retrofitting of homes for sustainability purposes. If that wasn't enough, there is the NOMA project, in association with the Cooperative Group. This is a 4 million square foot 'master-planned redevelopment' in the city centre. The project will produce 1.5 million square feet of new build office space, plus refurbished offices totalling 1 million square feet. Add to that another 1 million square feet of residential housing, retail space totalling 300,000 feet, and hotel accommodation that adds up to 200,000 square feet, and NOMA is looking to offer fantastic employment opportunities for construction workers.
Obviously, construction is a broad sector, encompassing much more than just labouring. Whether it's fitting, surveying or engineering, when there are large projects such as these dominating the city's sector, it's wise to contact a specialist recruitment agency. Often, the project managers will tender out to established recruitment agencies, who will source the variety of staff that such projects depend on.
