More information
Consulting is a relatively young sector, and first emerged as a legitimate employment field only as recently as the 1950's. Today, it provides jobs for more than 80,000 people and generates upwards of £8.5 billion in revenue. Typically, consultants are experts in their industry, and have either retired from successful careers or are still actively working in relevant roles.
A wide range of diverse UK firms offer consultation services. While some specialise solely in management, many others offer expertise related to outsourcing, IT, energy, and a host of other specific business needs. Strategic consultancy and outsourcing advisory are two common specialisms sought after by recruitment agencies, but there is a wide variety of unique employment opportunity available in the sector.
Consulting salary information
The vast majority of jobs are London-based, and salaries tend to be significantly higher there than elsewhere in the UK. Salaries can vary between £20K and £75K, but the overall industry average is close to £40K. Though a number of small firms account for a large percentage of employment in the field, and independent consultancy is also a viable option, the three largest employers in the sector are Accenture, Towers Watson, and Oliver Wyman.
